“AZADLIG” NEWSPAPER CORRESPONDENT THREATENED AND INSULTED VIA EMAIL OVER ARTICLE ABOUT HEZBOLLAH

“Azadlig” Newspaper correspondent Gan Tural has received three letters via email defending the organization “Hezbullah.”

Tural reported this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety today. Two of the letters express opinions about an article that Tural wrote, claiming that the information is incorrect and the journalist writes this way because he has received a grant from the U.S. Embassy, however the third letter includes curses and a threat. Tural sent these letters to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety. According to him, these letters stem from the article “The exclamation ‘I am a member of Hezbollah’ in Nardaran,” which was published in “Azadlig” Newspaper on 18 May 2008.  In this article, Tural said that religious men calling themselves members of Hezbollah is the final limit of political anarchy and legal nihilism in the country.

Tural said he has no intention of appealing to local law enforcement agencies about this matter, but did write a cultured response to one of the emails.
