ASSISTANT POLICE CHIEF SUES JOURNALISTS

Davachi Region Police Department Assistant Chief Mammadmusa Huseynov sued “Yeni Musavat” Newspaper employees Sabuhi Mammadli and Ervin Mirza. S. Mammadli told this to the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety. “Mammadmusa Huseynov filed a special lawsuit against us in the Binagadi District Court under articles 147 (libel) and 148 (insult) of Criminal Code,” he Mammadli.

S. Mammadli considers the lawsuit against him and his colleague unfounded. “We did not insult Mammadmusa Huseynov,” he said. “I have been to Davachi several times after the mysterious disappearance of the Majidova sisters from the Davachi Region’s Dagbilici to investigate the incident. I wrote all my articles based on what family members of the Majidova sisters and village residents said. Besides, during the trial for the Davachi Region Galagah village Ismayilov brothers, who were accused of kidnapping Majidova sisters, Mammadmusa Huseynov’s name was mentioned. During one of the hearings Tavakkul Ismayilov, one of the accused brothers, said that he kidnapped Majidova sisters at the order of Mammadmusa Huseynov.”

Mammadmusa Huseynov told IRFS via phone that the journalists intentionally accused him of committing grave crimes.  “I filed a special lawsuit against Sabuhi Mammadli and Ervin Mirza for mentioning my name unlawfully in their investigation in “Yeni Musavat” Newspaper in connection with the fate of Naila and Reyhana Majidova sisters who disappeared in the Davachi Region’s Dagbilici village, for insulting my dignity and honor and damaging my business image,” said Huseynov. Mammadmusa Huseynov noted that he appealed to the Ministry of Interior and Chief Prosecutor’s Office in connection with this.
