The broadcasting of "Azad Azerbaijan" TV (ATV) via shortwave radio was restored in the area of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in the morning hours of 18 January 2009. The Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety Nakhchivan correspondents reported this.

IRFS Nakhchivan regional correspondent was told by Nakhchivan TV Transmission Station that the TV channel's broadcasting had ceased according to a decision issued by Nakhchivan National TV and Radio Council and Press Council, and this was not a matter of technical problems. ATV reported that there was no problem associated with the broadcasting of the TV channel in Nakhchivan.
