“AZADLIG” NEWSPAPER DOES NOT PUBLISH SAKIT ZAHIDOV’S POEMS

The arguments concerning the ban on publishing satiric poet Sakit Zahidov’s poems in the “Azadlig” newspaper continues. Zahidov told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that the reason for this is due to the difference in opinion between him and the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Azer Ahmedov.

“After I was released, Azer Ahmedov told me to not use any officials’ name in my poems,” said Sakit Zahidov. When I submitted a poem that had no name mentioned, he said that he couldn’t publish the poem because it was not clear who the poem was about”.
M. Sakit also noted that Azer Ahmedov’s main purpose is to keep him away from the “Azadlig” newspaper.
“Azadlig” newspaper’s editor-in-chief Azer Ahmedov told IRFS that there is not any problem between Sakit and himself.
“The problem of Sakit’s poems is clear to him, his family, and his brother Ganimat Zahid. He served three year in prison because of the “Azadlig” newspaper. That is why I normally accept his anger and criticism,” said Ahmedov.
