(Azeri) 2003-CÜ İLİN SİYASİ MƏHBUSLARI BARƏDƏ AVROPA MƏHKƏMƏSİ QƏRAR ÇIXARIB

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) issued a judgement on the appeal filed by oppositionists that were ungroundedly jailed in 2003 and subjected to torture. The relevant information was put on the ECHR official website.

The ECHR ruled for 10,000 EUR in compensation of each appellant deeming the imprisonment of Panah Huseyn, Arif Hajiliv, Sardar Mammadov (Jalaloglu) and Rauf Abbasov (Arifoglu).
In his interview to Yeni Musavat, Azerbaijan Popular Front Party leader Panah Huseyn said that the ruling was fair. According to him, though issued late, the decision is of great importance given its legal power.
Azerbaijan Democrat Party Head Sardar Jalaloglu says that delay of the ruling is a violation of human rights in fact. “I don’t consider this decision as unambiguous. We had appealed to the ECHR under additional 2 articles. Those charges were not granted.”
To note, the said 4 figures were released from prison in March , 2005. The filed an appeal to the ECHR citing violation of Articles 6 (right to fair trial) and 11 (freedom of assembly) of the European Convention of Human Rights.
