COMMITTEE TO PROTECT JOURNALISTS CONDEMNS HARASSMENT AGAINST IDRAK ABBASOV

Committee to Protect Journalists released a statement yesterday in which it condemned the harassment of Idrak Abbasov, and journalist-researcher the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety, in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic National security Ministry on 20 February.

“We condemn the Nakhchivan state security services for luring a journalist to their headquarters with the promise of an interview only to blindfold and interrogate him,” CPJ Europe and Central Asia Program Coordinator Nina Ognianova said. “We call on the Azerbaijani central authorities to investigate this incident and punish those responsible.”
On 20 February, I. Abbasov was invited to Nakhchivan NSM for a meeting. Abbasov was subjected to pressure there and was accused of cooperating with Armenians.
