Today Sabail District Court held a preliminary hearing on Yeni Musavat newspaper’s lawsuit against the Defense Ministry. Judge Fuad Huseynov presided over the hearing.
The lawyer of the Yeni Musavat newspaper, Vagif Huseyn, reported to IRFS that he attended the preliminary hearing on behalf of the plaintiff with the representative of the Defense Ministry. At the hearing, both sides introduced themselves and the representative of the defendant submitted his objection to court. Judge F.Huseynov then scheduled the next hearing for 2 November at 3:00 pm.
Background
To note, the reason for the lawsuit is that in early September, Defense Ministry shared a statement regarding the article titled "Turkish students are hurt at military school." In it the Ministry claimed that the article was written at the Yeni Musavat newspaper and on behalf of Turkish Embassy and Anadolu Agency. The newspaper denied that it published such an article and during investigations they revealed that the Turkish embassy and Anadolu Agency never issued such a statement. Claiming that the Defense Ministry is engaged in falsification of information and the insult of the newspaper, Yeni Musavat newspaper appealed to Sabail District Court demanding 50 000 AZN as damages.
