CRIMINAL CASE LAUNCHED ON AZADLIG NEWSPAPER REPORTER`S MUGGING

On 28 April, Azadlig reporter Ramin Deco was summoned to the Yasamal District Police Office and questioned about the 4 April incident, in which he was the victim of a vicious beating, the reporter told the Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety today.

According to journalist, he was questioned by investigator Vugar Babanli at the police office. “I went to the Police Office at 11:30 a.m. yesterday. I was told that a criminal case was being launched. I repeated the story of what happened to me that night. The investigator asked me whether I knew the persons who beat me. I said that I could not see their faces because it was dark. I said that I was abducted in Rasulzade settlement and taken towards Mashtaga settlement, where they issued verbal threats against me.”
After the interrogation, said Deco, he and the investigator visited the incident scene: “Vugar Babanli took several photos of the scene where I was beaten.”  
Azadlig report employee Ramin Deco was abducted on April 3 and he was physically assaulted by unknown persons a day later.
