The criminal case on the vicious assault against a British human rights defender and American journalist is being finalized. Erol Aliyev, an investigator at Yasamal District Police in Baku, told Azadlig Radio that the investigation the suspects is continuing. “If nothing extra-ordinary happens, we will send the case to the court by mid- August.”
According to Aliyev, there was no meeting between Davies and Erickson and the men charged with beating them during the investigation. Witnesses were questioned during the investigation.”
On June 16th, at 00.20, Celia Davies and Amanda Erickson was attacked outside Davies’s apartment. Four young men of athletic appearance threw the women on the ground and started beating and kicking them without explanation. They had been following the women for about twenty minutes. As a result, the girls were seriously injured. They broke Davies’s arm.
Erickson and Davies worked with local NGOs (IRFS), providing training for journalists and civil society activists. Erickson also worked with the Washington Post and The New York Times.
