EDITOR-IN-CHIEF SENTENCED TO 1.5 YEARS IN JAIL

Today, March 7, 2012, Khirdalan City Court sentenced the editor-in-chief of islamazeri.az website, Ramin Bayramov.

Judge Shamsaddin Abbasov presided over the trial. The editor was given 1.5 years in jail.
Lawyer Ramil Mammadov reported to Mediaforum.az website that the public prosecutor had wanted 5 years for Bayramov. “But I stated that if Ramin Bayramov is punished, it should be limited to corrective labor,” Mammadov said.
Hawyer added that he will appeal against the court decision after discussing the matter with Bayramov.
Bayramov was arrested on August 11, 2011, charged with illegal possession of drugs (Article 234.1 of Criminal Code) and illegal possession of firearms (Article 228.1). On August 13th, Sabail District Court sentenced Bayramov to pre-trial detention, which was then extended for 2 more months
