Ujar Region Executive Administration Head Arzu Gafurov has sued Ujar region resident Mammad Huseynov. M. Huseynov told this to the Institue for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety.
According to Huseynov, the lawsuit stems from his article “Somali pirates of Ujar” published in “Khural” Newspaper and his appeals to several government organs in connection with actions of Gafurov.
“Evaluating the article as damaging to his honor and dignity and his business image, Executive Administration Head Arzu Gafurov appealed to court,” said M.Huseynov. “In his lawsuit he asked the court to issue a decision to consider my appeals to government organs unfounded, to publish a refutation in the ‘Khural’ Newspaper for the article published under my name and to apologize.”
M. Huseynov noted that in the article in question he talked about bribe-taking actions and inhumane actions of Ujar region Executive Administration Head Arzu Gafurov.
M. Huseynov told IRFS that he has filed a counter lawsuit against A. Gafurov for his unethical actions during the last three years and is demanding that he pay 20,000 AZN for health damages.
IRFS contacted “Khural” Newspaper Avaz Zeynalli regarding the issue. According to A. Zeynalli, Ujar region resident M. Huseynov sent a critical article about Ujar region Executive Administration Head Arzu Gafurov and the article was published as “From the post of editor-in-chief”.
Attempts by IRFS to contact Ujar Region’s Executive Administration to learn their position on the issue were unsuccessful.
On 19 May at 10:00 a.m. in Ujar Region Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Chingiz Isgandarov, a preliminary hearing will take place on the counterclaim of Ujar region Executive Administration Head Arzu Gafurov and Ujar region resident Mammad Huseynov.
