Executive chief is demanding editor’ arrest

Today the hearing on the criminal lawsuit filed Lachin Regional Executive chief Ramiz Jabrayilov against Gundalik Baki newspaper editor-in-chief Habil Valiyev under Article 147.2 (libel by accusing a person of committing a grave crime) and Article 148 (insult) was postponed in Yasmal District Court chaired by judge Kahagani Tagiyev due to the absence of the plaintiff in the hearing.

The judge scheduled the next hearing for August 7th 11:00am.
Habil Valiyev reported to the IRFS that Yasamal District Court ordered him to pay 20,000 AZN fine following the lawsuit of the Lachin Regional Executive chief and that he would appeal against the decision.
Lachin Regional Executive chief Ramiz Jabrayilov filed a criminal lawsuit against Gundalik Baki newspaper editor-in-chief Habil Valiyev under Article 147.2 (libel by accusing a person of committing a grave crime) and Article 148 (insult). In 2011, Jabrayilov sued the editor for a series of reports in Gundalik Baki newspaper about Jabrayilov’s actions. .Now Jabrayilov is demanding Valiyev’s arrest.
If convicted Valiyev may face up to 2 years of corrective labor and up to 3 years of imprisonment.
