Court refuses to hear journalist Elmin Badalov’s appeal

On August 1st Baku Administrative Economic Court #1 chaired by judge Qurban Abbasov held a preparatory meeting on journalist Elmin Badalov’s appeal for his reinstatement to the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, where he previously studied.

According to Badalov’s legal representative Fariz Namazli, last September the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy denied a similar appeal by Badalov for reinstatement,
The judge said similar lawsuit was filed with Baku Administrative-Economic Court #1 on November 3, 2011, which the court denied on November 16, 2011. He postponed the proceeding until August 2 3:00pm in order to decide whether to accept the appeal for consideration.
Yeni Musavat newspaper correspondent Elmin Badalov was expelled from the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy on January 19, 2010. Badalov alleges that teachers flunked him and he faced pressure for his article titled “Reportage from Azerbaijan State Oil Academy” on the website, where he described incidents of bribery and financial fraud in the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy.
