On October 27, an exhibition of political caricatures of famous painter Seyran Jafarli was held in the Azerbaijan Media Center. The Media Center Programme coordinator Seymur Kazimov said that Seyran Jafarli, who lives under poor conditions, is the winner of 85 awards.
“The painter mainly touched upon international affairs, press freedom, democratization and won prizes in the foreign countries,” Kazimov said.
“Unfortunately, caricatures are not a part of press in Azerbaijan. By holding this exhibition we want to draw the editors’ attenion to this art,” Media Center Head Gulnare Akhundova said.
US Embassy to Azerbaijan spokesman Kis Bean spoke of the importance of political caricatures. “One picture is worth a thousand words. This proverb demostrates the power of the caricature.”
At the end of the exhibition, political cartooinst Seyran Jafarli thanked the Media Center for organizing the exhibition.
