
Emin Fatullayev said that several human rights organizations, particularly Amnesty International, continue their support campaign for Eynulla Fatullayev. According to him, during February, more than 300 letters and cards came to Eynulla’s address from 60 cities of England, 9 cities of Canada, 21 cities of Scotland, 2 cities of Switzerland, 3 cities of Austria and a number of other countries. About 20 well-known human rights defenders from Poland, students from four Great Britain Colleges, “The Times” Journal’s commentator Mark Kerry, and several leaders and priests of Scotland churches have written letters to Eynulla Fatullayev.
These letters and cards hold slogans like “We are Proud of You”, “We will Open Your Doors”, and “Together We will Win Over the Enemy of Speech.”
"Gundelik Azerbaijan" and "Realny Azerbaijan" Newspapers' Editor-in-Chief Eynulla Fatullayev was sentenced to 2.5 years of imprisonment on 21 April 2007 for insulting honor and dignity. Later he was convicted under articles 214.1 (threatening terror), 283.2.2 (incitement of ethnic/national, social or religious hatred abusing authority), and 213.2.2 (tax evasion) of the Criminal Code and was sentenced to 8.5 years of imprisonment on 30 October 2007.
