
“On 11 June I visited Eynulla Fatullayev due to a mass revolt that occurred at Prison #12,” said Elchin Behbudov. “Fatullayev told me that he had already been interrogated by the prison administration regarding the incident and he does not have any connection to it.”
Attempts were made to influence Fatullayev to take part in the incident; however, E. Fatullayev refused to participate, according to E. Behbudov.
On 11 June, in Prison #12, a group of prisoners attempted to conduct a revolt to protest the quality of food and the attitude of prison employees towards the prisoners.
Gundelik Azerbaijan" and "Realny Azerbaijan" newspapers' editor-in-chief Eynulla Fatullayev was sentenced to 2.5 years of imprisonment on 21 April 2007 for insulting honor and dignity. Later he was convicted under articles 214.1 (threatening terror), 283.2.2 (incitement of ethnic/national, social or religious hatred abusing authority), and 213.2.2 (tax evasion) of the Criminal Code and was sentenced to 8.5 years of imprisonment on 30 October 2007.
