First Day of Election Campaign Marked by Incident for Igbal Agazade

On the first day of the election campaign started in connection with the repeat parliamentary election in Agdash Election Constituency #90, the cars displaying the photo of Umid (Hope) Party chairman and parliamentary candidate Igbal Agazade were pelted with eggs by a group of residents, Igbal Agazade’s election headquarters told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS).
The elections to the Parliament (Milli Majlis) of Azerbaijan Republic were held on November 01, 2015. However, on November 17, 2015, the Central Election Commission annulled the results of Agdash Election Constituency #90. On April 12, 2016, the President of Azerbaijan signed an order to appoint a repeat election to Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Republic in Agdash election constituency #90, and the repeat election to the parliament was set for June 18, 2016. The chairman of Umid Party also nominated his candidacy, which was approved.
According to the election headquarters, some residents hinder the campaign activities. They have torn off Igbal Agazade’s photos affixed to windows of cars. Some of them set on the Umid Party members involved in the campaign with batons. Nevertheless, the majority of the local residents of Agdash supported Igbal Agazade and pushed back the troublemakers. Igbal Agazade himself was not in the place of incident when it happened.

Umid Party chairman Igbal Agazade, whose candidacy in the repeat parliamentary election from Agdash Constituency #90 has been registered, launched his election campaign on May 26.
