Today a court hearing on ANS’ lawsuit filed against "Azadlig Fadailari" newspaper took place under the chairmanship of Nasimi District Court Judge Mammad Mammadov.
ANS' lawyer Tofig Hajiyev, Head Law Counsel Tagiyev Araz, and "Azadlig Fadailari" Newspaper Founder Tahmasib Novruzov participated in the hearing. The hearing opened with the plaintiff’s defending their lawsuit. In response to this, Novruzov stated that, "As founder I was aware of the article about ANS and I was then showed the picture that was placed on anspress.com site. Due to this kind of evidence I didn't object to its publication. What kind of rage can I have against ANS anyway? I respect this TV channel, but consider this accusation groundless. I agree with one thing in the claim; the criticism in the article about ANS is very harsh. I think it is ok to criticize, but without insulting the dignity of anyone."
Later the founder of the newspaper showed the pictures that led to publication of the article and presented the disc where the pictures are reflected from anspress.com site to the judge. He emphasized that he will file a petition about this in the written form.
Then the judge announced that the next hearing will take place tomorrow (7 March) at 11 a.m.
Recall that ANS filed a lawsuit against "Azadlig Fedaileri" Newspaper and correspondent Nebi Allahverdi, due to an article that was run in the 28 November and 01 December 2007 editions of the newspaper. According to ANS' legal representation, the article, entitled "The pornography of ANS," with the subtitle "ANS is in everywhere-impoliteness," doesn't correspond to the truth, and involves false, humiliating and insulting information. ANS is seeking the publication of a refutation, and wants a 50,000 AZN fine instituted against Allahverdi and a 10,000 AZN a fine instituted against "Azadlig Fedaileri."
