Free apartments provided to journalists in Azerbaijan

Today, on the National Press Day one hundred and fifty five Azerbaijani journalists received free apartments in a building built for journalists in Bibiheybat settlement of Baku. The two, three and four room apartments were distributed to the applicants by casting lots. President Ilham Aliyev attended the ceremony. He congratulated the journalists on their professional holiday and said that it is the first time in the world that a building was constructed for journalists at the government expense.

“Various media representatives with different political views have been provided with free housing, which shows that there is no discrimination in any sphere in Azerbaijan. Support for the press will continue and a journalist camp may be constructed in the future” said the president.

The foundation laying ceremony was subsequently held for a new building for journalists next to the one opened today.

Before the start of today’s ceremony the owners of new flats visited the grave of Heydar Aliyev in the Alley of Honor.
