
Murselaliyeva told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that Zahid’s health is normal and he has no complaints about prison conditions or the attitude displayed towards him in prison.
“Ganimat is only concerned about his journalist-friends who are free. He has anxiety that at any moment he will hear that one of his colleagues has been arrested or faced some other catastrophe. G. Zahid believes that he is in a safer situation than his colleagues,” said Murselaliyev.
Ganimat Zahid was convicted under articles 127.2.3 (hooliganism with intentional infliction of minor bodily harm) and 221 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code and imprisoned for four years. The charges against Zahid are widely regarded as spurious.
