“Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammerberg met with Ganimat Zahid within the framework of his visit to Azerbaijan last week and talked with him about issues in the sector of speech freedom and human rights in Azerbaijan,” said A.Mursaliyeva.
Ganimat Zahid, who has been recognized as a prisoner of conscience, was convicted under articles 127.2.3 (hooliganism with intentional infliction of minor bodily harm) and 221 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code and imprisoned for four years.
