Today, 15 March, Ayanda Mursaliyeva visited her husband, imprisoned Azadlig Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Ganimat Zahid, who is being treated in the Penitentiary Service’s Treatment Facility.
The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by A. Mursaliyeva. She said that although Ganimat Zahid did not complain about prison conditions, his rheumatism pains remain and his treatment has not been effective because there’s lack of medical equipment. She added that Ganimat Zahid reads every day and wants to read Koran for the third time.
Ganimat Zahid, who has been recognized as a prisoner of conscience, was convicted under articles 127.2.3 (hooliganism with intentional infliction of minor bodily harm) and 221 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code and imprisoned for four years.
Azadlig newspaper has been published since 1989 and operates as daily newspaper.
