“GARBI AZERBAYJANIN SESI” NEWSPAPER EMPLOYEE ALLEGEDLY HARASSED

Yesterday, 30 April, “Garbi Azerbayjanin sesi” newspaper’s employee Yagub Allahyarov was allegedly threatened and subjected to physical pressure. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by Yagub Allahyarov.

According to Allahyarov, to investigate the information given to the editorial office by the citizens he was at Ashig Molla Juma Street 15, in the children playground, where construction work is being done, at 12:30 p.m. yesterday. Someone named Ilgar introducing himself as the owner of the construction and four more people threatened him and insulted him using inappropriate language.
“The person named Ilgar said he was the cousin of the President of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan and parliamentarian Rovnag Abdullayev and introduced himself as the authoritative official of customs committee,” said Y.Allahyarov.  “Then holding my arms and threatening me, they took my journalist card out of my pocket forcefully and told me not to prepare information about the construction.”
“Garbi Azerbayjanin sesi” Newspaper Editor-in-chief Muraz Musayev told IRFS that they have already appealed to President Ilham Aliyev and Minister of Interior Ramil Usubov regarding the issue via the newspaper and that they will appeal to court in the near future.
