COURT DECISION ADOPTED AGAINST INTIGAM ALIYEV

Yesterday, 30 April, in the Nasimi District Court, a hearing was held on the lawsuit of the Shaki Appellate Court Judge Gazanfar Karimov against “Legal Enlightenment Society” President Intigam Aliyev and lawyer Nurlana Aliyeva for insulting honor and dignity.

The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by Intigam Aliyev himself. “The lawsuit stems from the publication of information about Gazanfar Karimov in the book. Nurlana and I are editors of the book,” said Aliyev. “He claims that the thoughts published in the book about him have damaged his honor and dignity and his business image has suffered. However, this information was taken from the website of the Court Rights Council.”
After listening to both parties, the court adopted a decision to partially fulfill the lawsuit of Gazanfar Karimov, added Aliyev. According to the decision, Intigam Aliyev and Nurlana Aliyeva have to pay a fine in the amount of 1000 AZN, apologize and publish a refutation. And the book should be removed from the sale kiosks.
We note that the plaintiff filed a lawsuit to fine the defendants 20 000 AZN.
In conclusion, Intigam Aliyev noted that he will file an appeal against the court decision.
