On 21 December, an unknown person insulted and threatened Gundam Khabar newspaper founder and editor-in-chief Shirin Jafari over the phone.
“I gave information regarding the incident to law enforcement bodies via the 102 service. Then I went to Yasamal District Police Department # 28, where the employees of the police department told me that they will take control of the situation and take measures,” said editor-in-chief.
The Anti-Corruption Office under the General Prosecutor’s Office launched a criminal case against Jafari, accusing him of violating articles 213.2 (tax evasion) and 308.1 (abuse of power) of the Criminal Code. The case has been attributed to an appeal filed by the Press Council requesting an investigation into the newspaper’s operations. According to reports, the newspaper was placed on the official Press Council ‘Black List’ for publishing reports that humiliated the honor and dignity of certain persons and for violating the journalist code of ethics.
