Head of Kanal-13 Arrested

Head of Kanal-13, Aziz Orujov was supposed to be freed in the evening hours yesterday, after his 30-day administrative arrest. Two hours before his expected release, Orujov was taken to the Serious Crimes Investigation Department. According to the journalist’s wife, the investigator called lawyer Elchin Sadigov and told him that Orujov wanted to see him as his lawyer. The lawyer has said that a criminal case has been launched against Orujov under Articles 192.2 (making a large amount of income through illegal business) and 308.2 (service forgery resulting in serious consequences) of the Criminal Code. Nasimi District Court, Judge Babak Panahov has ordered the journalist’s pre-trial detention for 4 months.
