HEARING HELD ON PARVIZ AZIMOV’S LAWSUIT

Today, 27 August, in the Lankeran City Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Javanshir Mammadov, a hearing was held on student/journalist Parviz Azimov’s lawsuit to consider the decision to exclude him from Lankeran State University (LSU) unfounded. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by P.Azimov.

Parviz Azimov and his lawyer, Media Rights Institute employee Khalid Agaliyev, and LSU Director Ruslan Hamidov on behalf of the defendant participated in the hearing.
“Defendant’s representative Ruslan Hamidov answered questions during the hearing,” said P.Azimov. “Witnesses will make statements during the next hearing.”
The next hearing on this case is now scheduled to take place on 2 September at 4:00 p.m.
LSU claims that Parviz Azimov violated internal discipline rules to expel him (allegedly beat a fellow student); however Azimov says that he was expelled because of his article “Open Bazaar in Closed Rooms,” which was published in “Janub Khabarlari” Newspaper on 10 February 2009.
