HEARING HELD ON PARVIZ AZIMOV’S LAWSUIT

Today, 2 September, in the Lankeran City Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Javanshir Mammadov, a hearing was held on student/journalist Parviz Azimov’s lawsuit to consider the decision to exclude him from Lankeran State University (LSU) unfounded. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by P.Azimov.

Parviz Azimov and LSU Director Ruslan Hamidov on behalf of the defendant participated in the hearing.
“My co-worker, ‘Jenub Khabarlari’, newspaper correspondent Sadraddin Kazimov gave witness accounts,” said P.Azimov. “I took my motions back regarding the interrogation of two witnesses to avoid delay in the trial.”
The final hearing on this case will be held on 10 September at 11:00 a.m.
LSU claims that Parviz Azimov violated internal discipline rules to expel him (allegedly beat a fellow student); however Azimov says that he was expelled because of his article “Open Bazaar in Closed Rooms,” which was published in “Janub Khabarlari” Newspaper on 10 February 2009.
