HEARING ON “KORRUPSIYA VA JAMIYYET” JOURNAL’S LAWSUIT POSTPONED

Today, 10 June, in the Binagadi District Court, under the chairmanship of judge Allahveren Hasanov, a hearing was scheduled to take place on the lawsuit of “Korrupsiya va Jamiyyet” Journal’s Editor-in-Chief Mammad Ahmedoglu against the Press Council. However, the hearing was postponed.

M. Ahmedoglu told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety, “This was second time that defendant party did not come to the hearing. The judge stated that he will adopt a decision next time without them participating in the hearing if they fail to show up.”
The next hearing on this case is now scheduled to take place on 12 June at 3:30 p.m.
“Korrupsiya va Jamiyyet” Journal was included on the list of ‘racketeering newspapers unveiled recently by Azerbaijan’s Press Council. M. Ahmedoglu says that his journal is not involved in racketeering. Therefore he has appealed to the Binagadi District Court asking the Press Council to publish a refutation and pay 250,000 AZN for moral damages.
