HERKEL CALLS RECOMMENDATION ON CANDIDATES CAMPAIGNING ON TV CONTRADICTORY

Yesterday, during a press conference of PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteur Andreas Herkel and Yevgeniya Jivkova, the campaigning on TV of candidates for public office and recommendations on changes to the Election Code on this matter were touched on.

Herkel said that the idea that candidates will only be able to carry out on propaganda on Public TV contradictory. He said, “It is recommended that election propaganda and election campaigns only be conducted on Public TV, and that the State TV channel not be involved in election propaganda. This is to say that only official information will be reported, but presidential candidates will not be given airtime, which means that if the incumbent president runs he will be on State TV daily, but there will be no opportunity for the other candidates to appear.  We understand this amendment in this way.”
