A group of human rights defenders in Azerbaijan have held a meeting at Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety to mark 10 December- International Human Rights Day.
On December 10, 1948, UN adopted Universal declaration of Human Rights. Since then the day has marked International Human rights Day all over the world.
During the meering IRFS Director Emin Huseynov said that although today is a holiday for poeple all over the world, the human rights situation in Azerbaijan is not heartwarming. The human rights defenders of Azerbaijan do not accept this situation, and continue to fight against it.
One of the human rights defenders of Azerbaijan Novella Jafaroglu also emphasized that the human rights situation in Azerbaijan is in a bad state. Participants also mentioned that human rights organizations and human rights defenders do their best to overcome this. At the same time, they also highlighted the development of a new generation of human rights defenders.
Participants added that they were not only defending the rights of political prisoners, but also social, property and labor rights and other rights of the people .
Participants observed the need for the protection of human rights as in Azerbaijan they are being widely violated. Human rights defenders are confident that in time these problems will be solved.
