Committee to Protect Rights of the arrested editor-in-chief of Tolyshi Sado Hilal Mammadov, intends to strengthen public campaign for his release,According to Mammadov’s brother, Sabahaddin Mammadov, no investigation has been conducted for the recent weeks.
This applies to charges of illegal possession of drugs and treason.
At 27 July meeting held at the IRFS/Azerbaijan Media Center the head of the Committee, Arzu Abdullayeva, focused attention on the fact that Mammadov’s rights have been violated since the moment of his detention. Namely, he was subjected to physical pressure, the search in his flat was conducted with violation of procedural norms, and the presumption of innocence was violated.
Independent lawyer Khalid Bagirov believes that the authorities want to keep the information on Mammadov’s case secret. This is why the lawyers were taken to sign a commitment to the secrecy of investigation. "If the police themselves are spreading information about the investigation, then why is it forbidden to lawyers? This is done deliberately in order to disarm the lawyers," said Bagirov. In his view, lawyers should file petitions against the closed trial of Mammadov.
