IRFS APPEALS TO INTERNAL AFFAIRS MINISTRY REGARDING PRESSURE AGAINST ITS EMPLOYEES

A complaint was sent to the Internal Affairs Ministry regarding pressure by police against the Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety employees on 8 October. The Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety was told this by Media Rights Institute’s   lawyer Elchin Sadigov.

Elchin Sadigov said they demanded that the identity of the Internal Affairs Ministry employees that used pressure against IRFS correspondents be determined and that a criminal case begin under the article163.2 (intervention in the legal work of journalist by official high-ranking official; using violence threats forcing them to distribute or to not distribute any kind of information) and 180.2.1 (robbery by some group of people).
On 8 October,   Editor-in-chief of “Milli Yol” Newspaper and Poligon Information Agency (PIA.AZ) Shahin Agabeyli and his Deputy Radil Mammadov were arrested by the employees of the Internal Affairs Ministry. The representatives of the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety Idrak Abbasov, Elnur Mammadov and Ganbar Ganbarov were subjected to pressure. Their video-cameras and photo-cameras were forcefully taken from them and were confiscated. Elnur Mammadov was taken with Shahin Agabeyli by police. but he then was freed on the road.
