December 11th, 2009
Reporters without Borders sent a letter to the French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, French National Assembly President Bernard Accoyer, and Senator M. Gerard Larsher and called on them to raise the issue of imprisoned journalistsin Azerbaijan with President Ilham Aliyev, who is in official visit in Paris. The organization’s representative told “Turan” that concern related to imprisoned bloggers – Adnan Hajizade and Emin Milli, and three journalists – Eynulla Fatullayev, Ganimat Zahid and Mushfig Huseynov was expressed in the letter.

“We asked the leaders of France to do their best to free the imprisoned journalists,” said the representative.

The Reporters without Borders mentioned in the letter that all these people were arrested in “questionable” situations. Furthermore, the health of some of them, especially of Mushfig Huseynov, creates serious concerns.

Although Ilham Aliyev has made pledges several times to find the murderers of Journalist Elmar Huseynov, these promises were not fulfilled.

The Officials of the France Foreign Ministry raised the issue of imprisoned journalists before the President of Azerbaijan during the meeting.
