"Yeni Musavat" Newspaper employee Afgan Mukhtali, who was beaten by police during the January 7 protest action in front the Israeli Embassy in Azerbaijan held by religious people, has left work for a week at the recommendation of doctors. Mukhtarli reported this to the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety.
According to A.Mukhtarli, investigator asked the journalist for preliminary x-ray film. However, Mukhtarli did not introduce the film to the investigation for fear of it being destroyed.
Mukhtarli added that court medical examination did not show that his hand was broken and there was crack in his foot. His hand was broken and his foot was cracked when he was beaten by the police. Mukhtarli will appeal to court regarding the incident on the basis of x-rays he obtained on his own.
