On July 11th Khatai District Court under judge Raziya Atashova held a hearing on the lawsuit brought by Yeni Musavat newspaper correspondent against Sevda Almuradova, director of the kindergarten #355, journalist Atashova reported to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS).
The plaintiff, her lawyer Azer Guliyev, and the defendant’s lawyer Akif Alizade attended the hearing.
The defendant’s lawyer said that they had filed a countersuit. Alizade noted that journalist Rafiyeva’s comments on the case provided to the press and websites are illegal as the trial is still ongoing. He considers the information about the kindergarten published in Yeni Musavat newspaper and websites as a pressure on the kindergarten management.
After a brief deliberation judge Raziye Atashova denied the lawsuit of the defendant and scheduled the next hearing for July 25th 4:00pm.
NB. Journalist Rafiyeva appealed to the court against Sevda Almuradova after she illegally expelled her 2 year-old son Amil Gurbanli from the kindergarten #335 allegedly because of Rafiyeva’s working for an opposition newspaper. Journalist Rafiyeva appealed to Khatai District Court with a claim of being insulted by the kindergarten director and asked for the restoration of her son’s rights.
