JOURNALISTS WHO WERE NOT LET INTO FORMER MINISTER’S TRIAL LAST YEAR APPEAL TO EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS

A group of journalists that were not let into the court hearing of former Health Minister Ali Insanov in 2007 have appealed to the European Court of Human Rights.

Legal Enlightenment Society Chairman Intigam Aliyev told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that the complaint was sent to the European Court of Human Rights after it was prepared by his organization. This lawsuit was not fulfilled by the local courts.

Recall that Elshad Mammadli (“Yeni Musavat”), Elshan Mammadaliyev (“Gundalik Azerbaijan”), Tarana Kazimova (“Turan” Information Agency), Fikrat Huseynli (“Azadlig” newspaper), Chingiz Sultansoy (“Realniy Azerbaijan”), Haji Zeynalov (“Ayna-Zerkalo”) Vazeh Mehdiyev (“Baki Khabar”), Sabuhi Nasibov (“Zerkalo”) put forth a lawsuit against Grave Crimes Court and its judges (F.Gasimov, A.Orucov, H.Ahmadov), and against the Justice Ministry Court Supervisors and Executors Department regarding the violation of articles 6 (right to fair investigation), 10 (right to freedom of expression), and 14 (prohibition of discrimination) of the European Convention of Human Rights’.
