“KORRUPSIYA VE JEMIYYET” JOURNAL’S EDITOR-IN-CHIEF FILES APPEAL

“Korrupsiya ve Jemiyyet” Journal Editor-in-chief Mammad Ahmedoglu has filed an appeal against the decision of the Binegedi District Court on his lawsuit against the Press Council and the Council’s Deputy Chairman Vugar Rahimzade. M.Ahmedoglu told this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety.

“Korrupsiya va Jamiyyet” Journal was included on the list of ‘racketeering newspapers unveiled several months earlier by Azerbaijan’s Press Council. M. Ahmedoglu says that his journal is not involved in racketeering. Therefore he appealed to the Binagadi District Court asking the Press Council to publish a refutation and every defendant to pay 4,000 AZN for moral damages. On 30 June 2009 Binagadi District Court Judge Allahveren Hasanov issued a verdict not to fulfill the lawsuit.
