Lawyer Elchin Sadigov has sent a letter to the Ombudsperson, Elmira Suleymanova, reporting the violations of protocol that he encountered in Baku Investigative Prison.
Sadigov said that he was searched while visiting imprisoned editor-in-chief Avaz Zeynalli in jail. After the visit, he was searched again and questioned about the nature of his conversation with Zeynalli.
“This behavior is illegal and constitute interferences in my professional work. The employees of investigative prison asked me about content of conversation with Zeynalli, which constitutes a violation of Article 92.9.2 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Azerbaijan Republic and the law on the Bar and legal profession and legal secrets,” said the lawyer. He also said that he has filed an appeal with the Administrative Economic Court # 2 regarding the incidents.
