Today, 20 April, in the Supreme Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Aslan Kalbaliyev, a hearing was scheduled to take place on the cassation complaint against the decision of the Appellate court issued on the lawsuit of citizen Eldar Mammadaliyev to defend his honor and dignity against “Tehgigat” Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Yagub Magrur.
However, the plaintiff’s new lawyer Shaig Huseynov filed a motion asking the judge to give him some time to familiarize himself with the case. The next hearing on this case is now scheduled to take place on 24 April at 10:15 a.m.
The case was considered in the Yasamal District Court under the chairmanship of Judge Khagani Tagiyev. According to the decision of the first instance court, “Tehgigat” Newspaper editor-in-chief Yagub Magrur had to publish a refutation and pay 200 AZN in compensation.
The editor-in-chief objected to the decision and appealed to the Appellate Court. Judge Jamila Safiyeva upheld the decision of the Yasamal District Court.
Recall that this lawsuit stems from article “Black actions of black bondmen in Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan” published in “Tehgigat” Newspaper on 27 December 2007.
