MUSHFIG HUSEYNOV TEACHES A GROUP OF PRISONERS ENGLISH

On Saturday (26 July) imprisoned “Bizim Yol” Newspaper journalist Mushfig Huseynov was visited by his relative Javidan Huseynov.

J. Huseynov told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that Mushfig has chest pain and is therefore still receiving medical treatment.
“With permission from the prison chief, Mushfig is teaching a group of prisoners English. Mushfig doesn’t have any complaints about the prison conditions or the attitude of the employees there towards him,” J. Huseynov added.
Recall that Mushfig Huseynov was convicted under Article 311.1 (receiving of a bribe) of the Criminal Code and on 21 January 2008 was sentenced by Grave Crimes Court Judge Jamal Ramazanov to 6 years of imprisonment, followed by 2 year ban on his writing activity.  However, this sentence was reduced to 5 years through a decision adopted by Appellate Court Judge Sahibkhan Mirzayev on 4 April 2008. IRFS believes that Huseynov was entrapped by government officials because of critical articles Huseynov was writing and considers him a wrongfully imprisoned journalist.
Tomorrow (29 July) cassation complaint of Mushfig Huseynov will be considered in the Supreme Court.
