“Khural” Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Avaz Zeynalli told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that the spouse of parliamentarian Aynur Jamalqizi has made threats against “Khural Newspaper.”
“A little while ago we started to publish parliamentarian Aynur Jamalqizi’s articles that were published in ‘Yeni Musavat’ Newspaper about Heydar Aliyev and Ilham Aliyev during the run-up to the 2003 presidential elections, including the article ‘It was like that back then and it is like this now,’ without adding or changing anything in them. For this we have been threatened and told that we’ll be punished and killed. We are told not to publish those articles,” said Zeynalli. He said that Khural Newspaper has no intention of stopping publication of the articles.
According to Zeynalli, he has already appealed to the National Security Ministry and Internal Ministry. On 30 July Zeynalli is planning to conduct a press conference regarding this issue in IRFS’ press center.
Jamalqizi harshly criticized the Aliyevs in her writings.
