Imprisoned “Bizim yol” Newspaper correspondent Mushfig Huseynov was visited by his relatives in Prison #3. M. Huseynov’s relative Javidan Huseynov told this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety.
According to J. Huseynov, during the meeting on 27 June M.Huseynov told his relatives that his health deteriorated.
“Mushfig Huseynov did not complain about prison conditions,” said J.Huseynov. “He is concerned about his health. Although a little while ago he refused to continue his treatment because he was dissatisfied with medical conditions in prison, he decided to begin treatment in prison #2 on 1 July.”
Mushfig Huseynov was convicted under Article 311.1 (receiving of a bribe) of the Criminal Code and on 21 January 2008 was sentenced by Grave Crimes Court Judge Jamal Ramazanov to 6 years of imprisonment, followed by 2 year ban on his writing activity. However, this sentence was reduced to 5 years through a decision adopted by Appellate Court Judge Sahibkhan Mirzayev on 4 April 2008.
