Yesterday, 4 October, imprisoned “Bizim yol” newspaper employee Mushfig Huseynov was visited by his relative Javidan Huseynov in prison #2.
The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by Javidan Huseynov.
According to Javidan Huseynov, although M.Huseynov did not have any complaints about prison conditions, he said that he has some changes in his health. “M.Huseynov has been running a high temperature for a week,” said J.Huseynov. “Mushfig is under care of the doctor in prison and he has been provided with medicine. Although the leadership of the prison suggested that Mushfig Huseynov be transferred to the treatment facility, the journalist said that the condition in the hospital is worse than in the prison. Therefore, Mushfig decided to receive the treatment in the prison.”
Mushfig Huseynov was convicted under Article 311.1 (receiving of a bribe) of the Criminal Code and on 21 January 2008 was sentenced by Grave Crimes Court Judge Jamal Ramazanov to 6 years of imprisonment, followed by 2 year ban on his writing activity. However, this sentence was reduced to 5 years through a decision adopted by Appellate Court Judge Sahibkhan Mirzayev on 4 April 2008.
