Today in the press center of the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety, a group of residents from Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Sharur region Zeyve Village conducted a press conference about the tearing down houses and buildings.
I inherited my house from my father. The house was built in 1959 and its documents are in order,” said said Zeyve village resident Nazim Mahmudov. “On 17 May – the day when Armenians invaded Lachin region – “Gemigaya” company representatives attacked my house.” His co-villagers’ houses are being torn down to enhance Nakhchivan-Sharur highway without compensation, added Mahmudov.
According to Mahmudov, due to repair work, a part of his house, stone fence, stable, bathroom, water well have been wrecked and his yard has been taken from him.
“We are not given anywhere to live and we are not given compensation. No one hears our complaints. Our family consists of seven people. Only my mother receives a pension. I am unemployed. I go to Turkey to work once in a while. Our financial situation is very difficult. I can’t afford buying a house or building one somewhere else. I am morally and psychologically pressured for demanding for my rights. Even after this press conference, my family and I could face danger. At present, my three babies, my mother and I found refuge at my sister’s house.”
Mahmuhdov said about 50 families in Zeyve Village alone have faced analogous problems, and they have appealed to President Ilham Aliyev and sued “Gamigaya” company for illegally tearing down their real estate.
