NARDARAN RESIDENTS CONDUCTS PRESS CONFERENCE IN PRESS CENTER OF IRFS

September 19th, 2008
Today (19 September) a group of Nardaran village residents held a press conference in the press center of the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety about land they allege was illegally seized.

The authorized representative of the residents, Rasim Alizade, stated that their "ancestral" property has been illegally seized by Nigar Nazarova, former U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Stanley Escudero's daughter-in-law. According to Alizade, he appealed to relevant agencies about this matter, but received no assistance.

“Therefore we give state organs 10 days. If we don’t get any response during this period, we will appeal to human rights defenders and embassies,” emphasized Alizade.

It was noted during the event that Nardaran residents gather in “Safikhanli” (Nardaran) every day between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. They invited journalists to go and record during these hours. Nardaran residents announced their contact information for journalists: (070) 607-04-22; (051) 817-58-11; (055) 881-86-11; e-mail: r_alizade@mail.ru.

The press conference was held in the press center of IRFS because Nardaran village residents cannot find any other place to conduct a press conference.
Although village residents appealed to several press centers, no one created conditions for them, except "Gundalik Baki" Newspaper.
