Today the imprisoned “Ideal” Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Nazim Guliyev has been released. The journalist’s brother Bahruz Guliyev told this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety.
He noted that, “today in Baku Appellate Court under the chairmanship of the Judge Gail Mammadov the appellate complaint filed from Nasimi District Court’s decision related to the imprisonment of Nazim Guliyev was considered. The court annulled the criminal case due to mutual reconciliation obtained between plaintiff- Ministry of Interior State Road Police Department Ramiz Zeynalov and “Ideal” Newspaper and released N.Guliyev from the court”.
Recall that, on November 6 in 2007 according to court verdict adopted by Nasimi District Court’s Judge Ikram Shirinov, Nazim Guliyev was sentenced 2.6 years of imprisonment due to a lawsuit put forth by Ramiz Zeynalov. Ramiz Zeynalov filed a lawsuit on articles 147 (libel) and 148 (insult) of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code.
