NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS PREPARE TO SUE PUBLIC TV

The Civil Society Defense Committee (CSDC) will sue Public TV. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by the CSDC Working Group.

On 17 June the NGOs opposing to the proposed changes to the Azerbaijan Republic Law on Non-governmental Organizations addressed an appeal to the Public TV to cover the position of NGOs in connection with the proposed changes to the Azerbaijan Republic Law on Non-governmental Organizations to get the message to the public through the channel. However, their request was not fulfilled. And the picket conducted in front of Milli Mejlis by CSDC on 19 June was not broadcast on the Public TV.
In light of this, CSDC has decided to sue Public TV for not fulfilling its obligation.
IRFS attempted to contact Public TV’s Public Relations Department Head Tahir Mammadov in connection with this issue; however it was impossible to talk to him.
