NTRC CHAIRMAN DISCUSSES LICENSING OF INTERNET TELEVISIONS

National Television and Radio Council Chairman Nushiravan Maharramli began to discuss the issue of licensing of internet televisions.

In his interview that was published in Sherg newspaper today, 23 June, he said that television needs regulation because it is an operation sector regardless of its form of broadcasting. In his response to the question “which measures will be taken to regulate the field of internet television?”, the NTRC Chairman said, “If this will show itself in practice in Azerbaijan, and become a real event, we can think about this.”

On 17 April, in the collegial meeting held at the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies, the minister said that online television and operation of different commercial structures should conform with law, and online televisions should receive licenses; otherwise their operation will be ceased.

National TV and Radio Council (NTRC) Chairman Nushiravan Meherremli voiced these ideas in the event that was held on the theme of “Electronic media: state regulation and public supervision” on 21 April.

The experts and the representatives of civil society institutes gave a negative reaction regarding this issue and they said that there is no such case in the world practice.
