One More APFP Member Arrested for Thirty Days

On 22 February, one more activist of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP) was arrested. Yusif Muzaffarov, a member of the Khatai district Youth Organisation of the Party, was detained by officers of the 36th police station of Khatai District Police Department when leaving home. The policemen took Muzaffarov’s phone away from him and deleted his Facebook page. On 23 February, Khatai District Court sentenced the activist to 30 days of administrative imprisonment on charges of disobeying the lawful requirement of the police.

The news was made public by APFP Deputy Chair Gozal Bayramli.

“It is the continuation of the policy of repression against APFP. The charge brought against the activist is unfounded and politically motivated. He has been arrested for his Facebook posts,” Bayramli noted.

Note that, eight APFP activists have been detained in the past half a month. Seven of them have been sentenced to between 24 and 30 days of administrative arrest on charges of disobedience to police, and one has been placed in pre-trial custody for three months.
